A PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff cut power to about 4,600 Amador County customers October 15-17, 2026. By Saturday afternoon the utility said the shutoff weather had passed and restoration was underway.

What happened

PG&E activated a Public Safety Power Shutoff across parts of 29 California counties starting October 15, 2026, citing high winds and dry conditions. In Amador County, roughly 4,600 customers lost power, including about 400 medical-baseline households. The utility opened community resource centers and pointed customers to 211 for assistance during the outage.

Weekend events went ahead

The shutoff window overlapped a busy Amador weekend, including the Preston Castle Haunt's October 16-17 nights in Ione. The castle kept power throughout the watch period and both Haunt nights ran as scheduled, along with the county's other weekend events. By Saturday afternoon, PG&E said the weather conditions prompting the shutoff had passed for most counties, Amador included, with crews patrolling lines and restoring power - about 39 percent of impacted customers were back on by 4:30 PM Saturday.

What to know

Shutoffs are called off when winds drop, but PG&E's 7-day forecast had listed Amador under a watch for Friday and Saturday before clearing. If you are visiting during fire season, check the utility's outage map before driving out to evening events, and keep a car charger handy. For this weekend's remaining events, see the events calendar.
