October in Amador County 2026: Preston Castle Haunt dates and tickets, the Fall Out rock festival, harvest celebrations, classic car shows, fall colors, and Halloween weekend events - the complete month guide.
Why October is the best month in Amador County
October is the single best month to visit Amador County. Harvest is on in the Shenandoah Valley, the hills along Highway 88 turn gold, and the county stacks its biggest events into four weekends: a first-ever rock festival, the Preston Castle Haunt's opening nights, classic car shows, and a full Halloween weekend. If you are planning one Amador trip this fall, make it this month - and book lodging early, because October fills up.
The big one: Preston Castle Haunt opens Oct 9
The county's biggest Halloween draw opens Friday, October 9, with six nights total: October 9-10, 16-17, and 23-24. Doors open at 7:00 PM at the historic castle in Ione. General admission is $35 and VIP is $50. The 2025 nights sold well, so buy ahead rather than hoping for the door. Pair it with dinner in Ione before your entry time - full details, parking, and tips are in the dedicated guide linked below.
Same weekend: the Fall Out rock festival (Oct 9-11)
Mountain Vibe Entertainment - the crew behind the June Mountain Vibe Music Festival - throws its first-ever rock and punk festival October 9-11 at the Laughton Ranch Event Center in Jackson, with bands, vendors, and on-site camping. One important note: as of this week the official ticket page shows online sales ended, so check Mountain Vibe's Facebook or Instagram for at-the-door availability before driving out. If you go, camp on site or book a Jackson hotel now.
Harvest season in wine country
October is crush season, and the wineries feel it. Rombauer Vineyards throws its Harvest Party on October 17 at its Plymouth winery - note it is already sold out - but tasting rooms up and down Shenandoah Road are pouring new releases through the month. This is also the sweet spot for tasting: summer crowds are gone, the weather is ideal, and most rooms are still walk-in friendly. Go on a weekday if you can.
Classic cars and small-town Saturdays
October 11 brings the 19th Annual Sutter Creek Car Show, with classic cars and hot rods lining Historic Main Street from 9:00 AM. The following Saturday, October 17, doubles up: the Devil Dogs and Hot Rods Autumn Classic Car Show in the morning and the Sutter Creek Wine Walk at 4:30 PM, pouring Amador County wines with appetizers around town. Either Saturday makes a great anchor for a weekend trip.
Halloween week: Witches Walk and more
Halloween weekend starts early. On Friday, October 23, Ione hosts Movies, Monsters and Moonlight, an outdoor Halloween movie night. Saturday, October 24 is the big day: the 3rd Annual Sutter Creek Witches Walk takes over downtown at 3:00 PM (free and family-friendly), and the CHP Amador Halloween Open House runs 4:00 to 7:00 PM in Jackson with trunk-or-treating, games, and hot dogs. The Haunt's final nights are October 23-24 if you want the full scare.
Fall colors and Gold Rush sights
For daylight hours, drive Highway 88 toward Pioneer and Kirkwood for the county's best fall color, then stop at the Kennedy Gold Mine in Jackson - October is the last month of the season for weekend tours, and the tailing wheels park next door is free. Black Chasm Cavern near Volcano is a cool 55 degrees year-round and pairs well with a Volcano afternoon. See the town guides linked below to build the itinerary.
Plan your October trip
October weekends sell out lodging in Sutter Creek and Jackson, so book before you plan around the events. The Haunt nights and the Fall Out weekend (October 9-11) are the tightest. Check the events calendar for exact times and ticket links, and read the town guides for where to eat and stay in each stop.
